I was doing J13 - J14 of the M6 on the way home, went over a bump or something not sure, then one of the rear bumper mounts that was rusty sheared off and the whole lot acted like a parachute, ripping out all the remaining bolts.
I saw it going in my rearview, intact, so pulled over straightaway and started walking back to it (there were a few gaps in the traffic where I could have retrieved it) thinking 'ok I'll salvage it and it'll probably need a respray'.
I was about 300yards away when a lorry poleaxed it! That was the only piece left!

Ah well at least no one crashed into it! And I'm ok, gona get some new mounts made up and a smoother bumper this time!

What a stupid sig.

Was on the verge dude! Didnt walk out into the hard shoulder to get the remaining piece until there was a gap in the traffic :) my mum saw a fatal crash on the hard shoulder before and that is enough to convince me to spend the least time possible there, not a safe place!

Thinking something like this for the future, with the numberplate under the splitter (Although I may swap this bootlid onto the new GTi 'Gizmo').
