Motorsport in general!!

Well, I've been catching up with the Moto GP and also the BTCC on the Sky planner, and although I'm a huge F1 fan, I have to say that they make Formula One look sooooo boring!! Action packed start to the season in both of them!!

I know F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport and some of the drivers are awesome at what they do, but it needs a bit more spicing up for the viewing public to stay interested!! Not sure if KERS and DRS are gonna make that much difference judging by the race last week! We'll just have to wait and see I suppose!!

i know what you mean about the F1 i guess the new systems will perform diffently on each circuit only time will tell, bring on malaysia

Yeah, nothing really goes on to keep your interest levels high! I know they are awesome at what they do but it does have a certain un entertaining element to it. And it seems Redbull may have another good season!

In complete contrast, this weeks MotoGP was an awesome race, loads of action and a fair amount of sliding into the gravel to go with it. Bikes are just so much better to watch on a track than the glorified follow-my-leader, win it on the pitstops that is F1.

Red Bull do look awesome again!! That fast and without KERS! Maybe it would be better if the teams all had the same equipment to start the seaon with, and then had to develop it from there! That would level the playing field a bit, but then I suppose it defeats the object of Formula One, it's supposed to be the showcase for the best, most technologically advenced race teams in the world!! They have to come up with the best ideas and solutions within the constraints and rules set by the FIA, and some do it better than others!! I read a quote somewhere that kind of summed up the main reason for Red Bulls dominancy. It more or less said "Adrain Newey has a supernatural understanding of aerodynamics and translates that into a Formula One car." Sounds about right to me!!

That's what I mean!! There was so much action at Jerez that even the commentary team were struggling to keep up with it!! Was it three or four different riders that lead the race at different points!! Really entertaining to watch!!

As for the pit stops in F1, that's one of my bugbears, how a faster, better and more consistent driver can be beaten into second or third place because of another teams pitstop strategy really annoys me!! It's slightly better now there's no refuelling but it's stilla tactical game. The racing should decide the outcome not the pit stops!!!

Not a big fan of F1 really.......it's all a bit too much controlled.........much prefer some of the GT and Rally type events.....in fact in my opinion the greatest race in the World is the Paris Dakar even though it is now in South America........

Yeah F1 is too controlled and the teams with the most money usually dominate. But Red Bull have come between Ferrari and Mclaren and look like they are gona kick ass again! But the races can be quite boring at times. However got to admire the skill of some of the drivers. And as bryanr said, there are alot of tactics that go on and this does not necessarily mean the driver leading should be in front is he managed to get there through a pit stop tactic!

It is good to see some other types of motorsport though

My all time favourite racing championships isn't run any more.....anybody remember "Wacky-Races"....the camera work was a bit cartoony but the action was great.......i seem to remember the cars' had no limitations to restrict the action...and the modifications were awesome.....the "Grusome Twosome" even had a fire breathing Dragon (who lived in a small tower on the back of the vehicle) to scorch the opponents vehicles.....my favourite competitors however were "Dick Dastardly" and his co-driver "Mutley".....even though they failed to win a single race i appreciated their racing strategy....and often wonder what branch of Motorsport they eventually moved on to.....anybody have any information?????.....F1 would be greatly improved with the implementation of the Wacky-Races method of racing...
Large hammers appearing out of the fronts of the cars to smash the car of the opponent in front would greatly enhance racing strategy.....as would chainsaws,bombs,anvils falling on them,collapsing bridges,detour signs......the options are endless.
What do you all reckon....

Agreed. I am of age to recall this racing mayhem . Didn't they go on to build crazy aeroplanes in pursuit of one particularly evasive pigeon? Equally as inventive and destructive

I'm surprised the Japanese haven't invented a game show car race with similar rules. Sounds like something they would do..

That sounds like just the ticket to relieve the monotonous boredom of the current F1 races!! I do remember seeing one slightly strange modification on Penelope Pitstops car once, on the dash was a list of options, one of which was vibrator!!! Oo er missus!!
