Battery trouble!! was created by Arnie
My battery on the Rex keeps dying. It only takes a week or two before it's too flat to start the car!! I've checked the alternator which is charging it fine, I've checked the draw on the battery while it's standing and it's next to nothing! I've had a drop test on the battery and it's not the battery either!! I'm at a dead end!! Any ideas peeps??

Something may be drawing battery power constantly........so even though your alternator is topping it up it may not be enough....???

My old man came home with one the other day!! He says I can use it to keep it topped up!!
That's what I'm beginning to think. I'm going to drain and recharge the battery and then use a multimeter in series with the battery to see exactly how much current is being drawn while she's standing. If worst come to worst I'lljust have to fitt a battery kill switch to isolate it when not in use! Lat time I did it I just put it across the battery which apparently won't give a true reading!!

I have the same problem with the corolla, only since I have stopped using it in the week, how often do u use the Rex? I'm looking into mine as I don't want the same thing to happen when I've spent on an optima yellow top, will let u know if I come up with any thing, I'm thinking it's the alarm systems led but common sense says it would take weeks for a single les to kill a car battery.

After a bit of investigative work involving the battery and a 12v coolbox, I'm thinking my battery has a cell down. I'm taking it to my local autoelectrician tomorrow to get a drop/shunt test on it which will hopefully determine if it is tatered or not!! As you say Greg, it would take many weeks for the alarm LED to kill a battery, there are other things that draw from it too though, such as the stereo from it's permanent live for it's memory, some ECUs draw current constantly as they have a permanent live too. It might be worth getting the battery tested in case it is faulty. That's my next step.
